I’d like to introduce Voltaire’s parents: Francois Arouet and Marie-Marguerite Daumard. Those two made Francois-Marie Arouet…d'aw. Just look at them.
I find it cute that Voltaire’s real name contains both of his parent’s names.

Out of five Arouet children only three survived, Voltaire being the youngest of them all. He was very fond of his elder sister, Marguerite Catherine, but absolutely held no sympathy for his elder brother, Armand.
Considering that his brother turned into a religious fanatic, I probably would not be fond of him either.

I don’t know much about the marriage between Francois and Marie-Marguerite, but I’m thinking they were different people. One working hard, the other living a pleasant life in prayer…they probably acted like roommates.
Mostly likely Voltaire’s mother showed him the light of high society, especially since his godfather was good friends with her and he became Voltaire's sponsor.
Voltaire and Papa Arouet weren’t really. .the best of father/son relationships.
Francois wanted his son to take up a stable job, sooo. .Voltaire submitted and took up learning law…but it didn’t last long.
He wanted have a career in literature, not a boring job like law. As far as his father was concerned, literature would get you nowhere and leave you penniless.
To which my muse scoffs.
But I’d like to add that Francois attended one of his son’s plays and was so overwhelmed by how good it was, he just had a “THAT’S MY KID!” moment.
For three years father and son were on good terms before father Arouet died.
I just find that sad.
These are just some fun facts for you all.
