Collection’s Highlight: 18th Century Silk Vest

This is one of two 18th century vests in our collection.  This one is silk with cut velvet figures of leaves, vines and roses.  I did not have a picture of the back, but someone decided to expand the back by cutting open the center seam and crudely adding a brown felt gussett that does not even long enough for the vest.  Its rather unseamly.

Men’s Vest, ca. 1790, Silk and Velvet, L:22.5in x W: 17.25in. Fenimore Art Museum, Cooperstown, New York, Gift of Ralph Lum, N0084.1965.

First, my spouse Peter loves Russia’s enemies. Second, he doesn’t love me. And as a result? He won’t be the Emperor. Russia will never become a Prussia’s province or a toy in the hands of political gamers. Only they don’t know about this yet…
